Swara Sangam

Seminar on MusicSwara Sangam, a music seminar for the Chinmaya Vidyalayas, was held at Chinmaya Vibhooti from Dec 18 to 21, 2008. The focus was on the role of music in the overall development of the child and the importance of music education in schools. “This is the first programme which fulfils the purpose for which Chinmaya Vibhooti was conceived,” said Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda. There were 90 participants and the faculty consisted of stalwarts like Kala Ramnath (violin), Dr. Karaikudi Subramanian (veena), Shubhendra Rao (sitar), Saskia Rao de Haas (cello) and Dr. Vikas Kashaldhar (vocal). The entire programme was conceived and composed by the CCMT Education Cell. The Chinmaya Swaranjali of Thane provided supportive network. Sone of the topics taken up in the seminar were unusual and interesting, like ‘Swara to Ishwara’, ‘Changing Definition of Music’, and ‘Universals in Music’. Nature provided the rhythm to this extraordinary orchestra in Chinmaya Vibhooti, with the mountains encoring Swara Sangam as a resounding success.
